Open to students of law at any level (LL.B., BA LL.B., LL.M., J.D.) who have not yet been admitted to practice; team size is flexible, though typically two to six members. One team per institution.

The Willem C. Vis Moot, held annually in Vienna in the week before Easter, is the world's premier moot in international commercial law and arbitration, regularly drawing over 350 teams.

The problem is always a cross-border sales dispute governed by the CISG, seated under a major institution's arbitration rules, so teams argue both jurisdiction/procedure and merits. The Vis experience is famous for its global pre-moot circuit — many Indian teams warm up at pre-moots in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru before travelling to Vienna.
